LG Arts Centre

Seoul, South Korea

Tadao Ando/Gansam

The new LG Arts Centre in Seoul was opened by Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra in October 2022. The project was designed by Tadao Ando, Gansam and Theatre Projects.

It comprises a 1,300-seat main hall, a 400-seat Black Box Theatre, an orchestral rehearsal hall, a dance rehearsal hall and music practice rooms. The halls were designed with high-quality acoustics in mind to ensure that the LG Art Centre would be of international renown and would enable LG Arts to support and enhance the production and programming of symphonic music, opera and Broadway-style musicals. This programmatic flexibility was achieved through the introduction of an acoustic shell for symphony orchestras and the deployment of a variable acoustic system to reduce reverberation time for amplified events.
