Royal Art Complex

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura

The future Royal Art Complex is one of the last projects of the late Ricardo Bofill. For this project, Sébastien Jouan had to work closely with Ricardo and his team and give him a presentation on the history of performance halls and their different acoustic and volumetric needs.

This dialogue helped to understand the acoustic needs of the main hall of 2200 seats intended to host operas and amplified events. The auditorium, having a circular plan, was designed to be highly diffusing to avoid any focusing of the sound. A variable acoustic system is also integrated into the side walls to accommodate amplified events.
