Egypt Opera House
New Capital City, Egypt
The new Egypt Opera House is located in the heart of Egypt’s new administrative capital. It comprises five halls, including a 2,150-seat main opera house, a 1,200-seat concert hall and a 600-seat theatre. The project is part of a larger 504,000m² project that aims to elevate the artistic and cultural experience in Egypt and is the largest of its kind in the Middle East.
The new opera house was designed to provide suitable acoustics for classical operas as well as Broadway-style musicals requiring amplified sound, ballet, and symposia and congresses.
The jewel of the complex includes a new 1,200-seat “shoebox” concert hall, the capacity of which was contained to provide exceptional acoustics. The hall was inaugurated in 2022 by Riccardo Muti and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert hall also includes an organ designed and installed by the German organ builders Orgelbau Klais. It finally includes a variable acoustic system to reduce the reverberation time when used for amplified events.
The third hall is a 600-seat theatre hosting various types of performances including theatre, Egyptian and amplified music concerts, symposia and conferences.
