Kaunas Concert Hall
Kaunas, Lithuania
(Competition)
The future M.K. Curlionis Concert Hall is to become a radiant and iconic venue for the city of Kaunas in Lithuania. To achieve this, Studio Akkerhuis has created a new promenade, a public park and a square along the banks of the Nemunas River.
The complex is divided into three spaces, the main concert hall, the secondary hall and the conference centre. These spaces are like boulders washed up on the river bank. Each is recognisable as a separate entity in the folded landscape. Together, they ensure that the volume of the Concert Hall is in keeping with its immediate context and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
This project is one of several competitions on which Bart Akkerhuis, Sébastien Jouan and their respective teams have collaborated.
