Competition with Moreau Kusunoki

In 2015, Sébastien Jouan met Nicolas Moreau and Hiroko Kusunoki while they were preparing their winning proposal for the Guggenheim Museum competition in Helsinki. This anonymous international design competition received over 1,751 entries and was considered one of the most important in recent years. It was organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, which also organized the flagship competition for the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, won by Frank Gehry in 1991.

Together, we worked on the acoustic and theatrical design input of the main auditorium, but we also thought about the acoustic aspects of the entire building. The museum consists of several acoustically separated units, thus ensuring perfect sound insulation.

The qualities of the external soundscape were also considered.

Architect: Moreau Kusunoki

Role of Sébastien Jouan: Technical direction and acoustic design under contract Theatre Projects
