Yves Saint-Laurent Museum
Marrakech, Morocco
Studio KO
The Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech is an architectural gem designed by Studio KO and Theatre Projects.
The museum includes the 120-seat Pierre Bergé auditorium designed to host small piano recitals and string quartets.
Renaud Capuçon, the famous French violinist, said “The new recital hall is a gem, I give it 20/20 for its acoustics”.
The auditorium is a promise of performance kept, a center of technological and architectural excellence. This space adapts perfectly to the museum’s multiple requirements and draws on a design combining sobriety and comfort. The architecture combines contemporary simplicity and modernity. With its variable acoustics, it is also used as a conference room and a film screening room. Technically, the projection and sound system allows for an immersive experience in the world of Yves Saint Laurent.
Theatre Projects provided the theatre and acoustic design. As technical director of the acoustic team of Theatre Projects, Sébastien Jouan provided the concept and designed, with the architect and the theatre designer, the shape and volume of the auditorium. The acoustic design also included the entire Museum.
From schematic design onwards, Sébastien handed over the project to focus on TP English speaking projects and the project was covered by Victoria Chavez until its delivery.
The project has received numerous architectural awards including the AFEX Grand Prix in 2018.
