West Kowloon Cultural District

The West Kowloon Cultural District will see the creation of a new cultural district in Hong Kong. It will include several buildings dedicated to the Performing Arts such as the Music Centre (2,000-seat symphony concert hall, 600-seat chamber hall and orchestra rehearsal hall), the Grand Theatre (2,000-seat opera house, 400-seat chamber opera house), the Music Theatre (2,000-seat auditorium for amplified events) and the Medium Theatre (600-seat theatre and 150-seat theatre).

Sébastien Jouan’s role was to establish the acoustic program as well as a preliminary acoustic design service with the establishment of the dimensions and volumes required for each room and the logistics associated with these rooms, as well as advice on the constructions required for acoustic insulation between each room. All this information was provided in order to establish the footprint of each building.
