National Theatre
Tirana, Albania
After two very positive projects in Paris (Galeries Lafayette Champs Elysées and the Cité de l’Innovation), this project was a new collaboration with Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). The bow tie-shaped National Theatre of Albania responds to a thriving arts scene in the nation’s capital. Located in the heart of Tirana’s cultural city center, the project aims to create new urban gathering places with a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood, while making the theater a player in its own right.
Located next to public landmarks such as Skanderbeg Square, the National Opera and the National Art Gallery, the project will replace the existing theater while adding three new performance spaces, a rooftop amphitheater and a covered public space beneath the building.
