Peter Stitt
Sound Designer
Peter Stitt collaborates with Studio Jouan as an external consultant on projects needing sound design and/or 3D sound through his own practice SSA Plugins. In 2022, he worked with Seb on the Urbanozoo! sound art installation at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris.
Peter has been working with spatial audio technology for more than a decade, on both technical and artistic projects. He is currently the developer of the SSA Plugins suite, which provides tools for audio engineers working with Higher Order Ambisonics. He has also worked on projects as a developer or as technical support in the fields of, among others, pro-audio, consumer-audio, automotive, and artistic support.
Peter has also worked in academia, for the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and Sorbonne University on spatial audio, binaural audio, and real-time auralisation of rooms (including Notre Dame Cathedrale). He remains in very close contact with the academic world to remain up to date with the cutting edge of spatial audio research. You can check out some his research work on ResearchGate.
Before coming to France, he obtained a PhD and master’s degree at the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen’s University Belfast, where he got his first taste of spatial audio. Here he learned the importance of not only the need for technical excellence, but also of the need to pair it with practical or artistic purpose.
Peter is also working as a consultant and developer of spatial audio tools, such as the aX Plugins.
